Dr. Patel has both personal and professional experience in working with the complex dynamics surrounding giftedness and twice exceptionality (2E).
Dr. Patel has nearly 20 years experience in the diagnosis of Autism in all ages. She is research training in the ADI-R, is trained in the ADOS-2, and also has training in the MIGDAS-2. She also is well-versed in the unique profile of Autism in females, gender diverse individuals, and adults.
SPECIAL EDUCATION, CHILD WELFARE, ADOPTION, TRAUMA
In addition to having a doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology with nearly 20 years experience, Dr. Patel also has a Masters of Jurisprudence in Child Law. This allowed for specializations in the area where the law and psychology intersect, such as special education, child welfare, trauma, and adoption.
As part of her work in an interdisciplinary clinic, they had a specific 0-3 clinic that Dr. Patel helped to run for nearly a decade. Dr. Patel is also research certified in Bayley-4, the developmental test that is most often used for this age range.
As part of a comprehensive evaluation, Dr. Patel has been providing psychoeducational evaluations for nearly 20 years. This includes evaluating for Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, and Dyscalculia. Identification of learning difficulties in gifted individuals or those who have received extensive intervention is another area of expertise. Her masters of jurisprudence also provides a strong background in special education law.
COMPLEX MENTAL HEALTH, DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS, SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL SKILLS (ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, MOOD DISORDERS), AD/HD
Dr. Patel also spent nearly a decade as the sole psychologist working in rural Illinois. As part of an interdisciplinary team that she helped to create, she was provided with any training that was needed to support her community. This included being part of ECHO Autism through the Thompson Center in Columbia, specialized training in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders through the University of Washington, and extensive training in complex mental health. As part of this clinic, she worked with speech/language pathology and occupational therapy with all clients and is familiar with the overlapping domains of development.
